My Cousin/Friend/Sister...
It was just what I needed. We started the day out with a ball game.
Storm was able to get away from work to come, she is a much bigger baseball fan than I (mainly a cubby fan, but really a baseball fan, she cheers for the Sox as well, but here in Chi, dual loyalty is almost blasephemy), but still I had a great time. And a Cubby game must be on the list of genuine American experiences for someone in from Europe. My cuz grew up here, but her ex has only seen Chicago thru two interesting lenses, The Blues Brothers movie, and a video game (which I can't recall the name of, but it incorporated a number of Chicago landmarks, like the Field Museum).
We picked them up at her dad's in the northern burbs, and drove to an el stop near Scott's apartment along the redline. I mean, come on now, it can't be a real Chicago experience unless you ride the el to and from the game, can it?
Contrary to popular legend, and afternoon game at Wrigley field really can be a family kind 'o thing. One of the things I enjoyed seeing were the number of little kids there (lets just say, kids outnumbered drunks 100 to 0, I can't actually say I saw any stumbling drunks, although I am sure they were there, but it was quite different than "conventional wisdom" here in Chicago that tells us that the park is full of nasty drunken yuppies.).
After that we went back the the car and proceeded to drive around town, eventually ending up down by University of Chicago (my Cuz graduated from there).
Here are my Cuz and her ex(?) taking in the Chicago skyline from the southshore, around 47th street.
It was great day.
We headed back to Scott's neighborhood, where he joined us for dinner (and My cuz and storm frequented one of my cuz's favorite store here in Chi, Early toBed)
