Worried about the environment? Move to the city.

To me this is just common sense, almost everything about the city is more convenient, and cheaper from an energy expended point of view, (currency is another matter, however it has been my experience that the lower living costs of the country are also reflected in lower wages). I have loved trips out west to visit, but there is something so odd about being fifty miles away from a movie theatre. On the other hand, every town I was in is built in an old fashioned enough way that I could get almost anywhere I needed to on foot. In town that is. If I needed something from the Walmart, well....

One of the great things about the "economies" of size that you find in the city, is the accompanying choices, rendering the city highly anarchic in a free association manner. The downside of this of course is the potential destructive chaos that occurs when the Homo Sapiens in the urban environment have not found their "balance". I am one of the optimists in this though, I think we are finally starting to learn how to live in them successfully.

But, I love this post noting that if you really want to be environmentally friendly you'll live in the city. I need to point out that living in the sub-urban environments do not automatically receive this benefit, nor are they automatically excluded from it, however I suspect they are.
