Democratic and pro-fascist Rep Waxman has company...
In a number of states, the government is going on random fishing expeditions into women's private medical records. There is always some not quite believable reason for it, like Rep Waxmans belief that freedom from steroids, is more important than freedom itself. I think the first time I had ever heard about these types of anti-constitutional efforts when Ashcroft wanted to do the same.
feministe has a posting on this which really strikes home, it's not somewhere else that freedom is being striped from the back of citizens, it's right in our own backyards.
Thanks to Amanda at pandagon for the pointer.
Just for the record, here is the 4th amendment one more time.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
In other words, you must have specific information.
You can't search every house in my town because one resident might be a burglar.
This is EXACTLY why they put this in the constitution.
To stop random searches based on an individuals desires or imagination. And last time I heard, there was no amendment changing this, and no declaration of martial law that might negate it.
Although give it a few days, no doubt that's coming. Wanna make a bet if Bush does declare martial law and suspend the constitution, that most of the Democrats, men like Waxman, will support it? It's a bet I won't enjoy winning.
