Avoiding the debates...

As I sit here avoiding the debates…(not much in the mood for pro wrestling tonight)…thinking about: The first of my ancestors to be born in this country (Maryland, 1840); my (probably) black great-great-great-great grandmother; the folks behind SpaceShipOne winning the X prize…life goes ever on and up…regardless of the weak brain potential of our candidates and the idiocy of our leaders, I find myself humming this…

Highwayman by Johnny Cash

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

I’ve given myself an assignment for the next few days…I have to re-read Darwin’s Origin of the species, Ben Franklins Biography, and Mortimer Adlers “How to think about God” (Adler describes it as a book, by and for, modern pagans.)

All because of this Wired article…..Something really, really bothers me about both sides in that little debate…maybe I’ll nail down exactly what. An awful lot of data to go through on the organizations mentioned in the article. It’s weird, the people calling themselves Darwinists seem to have rejected Darwin, embraced dogma, and left the door open for the Creationists. I don’t think anyone mentioned in that story, either supposedly pro-darwin, nor anti-darwin, seem to have actually read his book, The Origin of Species. Odd…and interesting.

“Once I was young and juicy, constantly wet—whether with blood, or love, or drink—well, it matters little. Take it as read: I was making recompense for the lack of a dream.”

Jeff Noon “Pollen”

(got to have some “fun” reading, to balance the serious dontcha’ know…and I’ve meant to read this follow up to the mind blowing “Vurt” for some time)
